This morning I figured out that the island we spent two nights on wasn’t Cres… In fact, we had crossed a tiny bridge on our way down, literally only a couple of meters long, that brought us from Cres to Losinj. I thought that Osor, the town at the bridge, was simply located on aContinue reading “Sold!”

Very cool birds
After two nights on the Istrian coast, I felt a strong urge to leave the place behind us, and continue our journey south. I found out yesterday – somewhat by surprise – that we were about fifteen minutes away from the car ferry terminal to the island of Cres. I know little of Cres, butContinue reading “Very cool birds”
Reestablish connections
Our program for today consisted of mostly ‘finding our bearings’. We know where we are, don’t worry… But going on camper trips in a small van with two adults, a toddler, and a baby always takes some smoothening time. We basically have to reinvent our methods of parenting, with the major differences being that ourContinue reading “Reestablish connections”
22!?
After a morning stroll through Bled, Slovenia, and having the mandatory cappuccino at a lakeside restaurant, we packed up and left Slovenia behind for our road to the southern neighbors in Croatia. After an hour or so of highway, the road continued on a smaller road that snaked through villages and hilly landscapes. Fucking beautiful.Continue reading “22!?”
Not bad for a first night!
For the past two days we’ve been prepping our van for the upcoming trip south, during which we will put my second month of parental leave to good use. After a long winter in which we had disconnected several of our van’s features including the water reservoirs and water pump, we had to do someContinue reading “Not bad for a first night!”
Sort of home
After four intense days, this week’s chemodiversity consortium meeting came to an end. I’m only unofficially part of this nice group of people, by serving as the daily supervisor for one of the ten subprojects. It somehow feels a bit like I’m an imposter in this group that got ‘in’ the easy way, without havingContinue reading “Sort of home”
Passau – the ghost town on the Danube
It feels like ages ago that we last went away with the camper. In reality, it has only been a couple of weeks since our van broke down in Berchtesgaden, and we were towed all the way to Freising. For some time we had no mode of transportation, while the Nugget was undergoing substantial repairs.Continue reading “Passau – the ghost town on the Danube”
Who cares? As long as we can sleep!
Da sind wir wieder! This morning, we ended our Netherlands trip, waving goodbye to in-laws suppressing their tears. It’s not fun saying goodbye to kids and grandkids, not knowing when will be the next time you see them. We made a lunch stop with Heike’s grandparents just across the German side of the border. NotContinue reading “Who cares? As long as we can sleep!”
Upgrades
On days like this, I’m just so happy that I have a garage. We almost wouldn’t have had one, and it doesn’t even have a door, but fuck it. It has a roof and keeps some stuff dry when it needs to be, and on rare days, I can use it to make things, whenContinue reading “Upgrades”
I’m taking a break
I’m taking a little break. Like literally! I’m sitting in my car, parked along the side of some back road, under the shade of some friendly birch trees. I thought I had gotten quite good at prepping the little one for an afternoon nap. For months on end it went very well. I would usuallyContinue reading “I’m taking a break”
