Heavenly weather

What is your favorite type of weather?

Today’s prompt

I could go all cliche and type some blabla about the sun. I do like sun. Who doesn’t.

But I also like insane weather.

Like ten years ago, when we were in Laos, cycling on a couple of islands in the Mekong river delta. We had just chartered a local guy to show us the river dolphins, and we had soaked in a couple of rock pools next to one of the bigger waterfalls in that area of the delta.

We had bumped into some other travelers and were having a drink in a local restaurant. We were just making dinner plans, as we rapidly saw dark clouds cover the skies. Crazy dark. The wind picked up, and it was clear that we’d have to leave to make sure we’d make it back to our hut. It was a coupltof kilometers away, across the bridge to the connecting island.

We’d only just left, but within minutes we were soaked by the torrential rains that came down. The wind was insane. Branches and palm leaves were flying through the air. Visibility was a couple of meters, but rough. Thunders cracked one afterethe other. The tiny Asian bikes were not ideal for racing through tropical tunders storms, but about fifteen minutes after, we made it to our hut. Not dry, perhaps not even safe, but at least it felt as if we had beat the weather.

Within an hour, the storm had passed, and we walked to the restaurant we agreed to meet our afternoon friends. It was an Indian place that overlooked the Mekong. Our newest friends never showed. The food was amazing, and it was incredible to see the violent storm slowly glide along the Mekong. The skies turned purple and red as the sun set. It didn’t matter that we didn’t have other company. We had each other and we were in heaven.

Hurricanes, tropical storms and monsoon weather. That’s the kind of weather I really love.

(Unfortunately I live in fog and side drizzle country)
