The sun had me fooled today. It looked like it was going to be a semi-cloudy day, meaning that there would at least be some sun around. That was true for sure, so we tried to go out as quickly as possible this morning, to grab a coffee in the sun somewhere in the city center. It turned out that a couple of rays of sunlight doesn’t make it spring. The wind was fierce and brutally cold. The coffee was good, but standing still gave me the chills. Nonetheless it felt good to be out. After lunch it seemed that the weather had turned for the better. More sun, less wind. We drank an ice coffee in the sun, and it suddenly felt like spring.
That’s when I drew a dumb conclusion:
It’s spring! We have to go out to find cool plants and early flowers.
We threw the kids in the van, and although nobody else but me really was excited, I drove to my favorite plant place, the Garchinger Heide. I was excited. I had already seen some Crocus earlier this week. Certainly the Garchinger Heide will already have something cool?
Boy, I was wrong.
Sorry to disappoint here. It was a barren sea of dead plant biomass. Some heather plants poking through, showing off some of their pretty flowers. That was at least something. But overall, mostly cold, barren, empty, and very windy. I could have known, but I was blinded by the sunlight.
I’ll try again in a couple of weeks….
