It was bound to happen sooner or later, but I just received the news that a person close to us, whom I have shared a ride with, and had family lunch with earlier in the weekend, now tested positive for covid this morning. It’s the first positive contact person I have had thus far. Maskless contact in a small enclosed space… Little distancing possible in the passenger seat. It’s probably not great, huh?
Hmm.
I’m not fully sure what it means for us. Our entire family tested negative this morning. We also all tested negative on Saturday, too. How likely is it that I picked up something from a person that tested negative that same day? Tomorrow it has been five days since our contact, so I guess I’ll have to test once more tomorrow morning, to be sure. Home office it is for tomorrow…
I had somehow expected my mind to freak out over this, but instead I feel remarkably peaceful. The other person was in fact more worried than I was. I reassured them that whatever happened, our testing strategy was the best we could have done. If same-day testing cannot avoid spreading the virus, then, well, I don’t know what can… If it’s time, it’s time…
I guess at this point in the pandemic, getting in contact with the virus will happen at some point. The experts are pretty clear about this, too. It’s more or less inevitable.
Only a matter of time.
I still hope I can postpone my turn…
