We spent a couple of days in the East, visiting my mother and two younger brothers. It was a bit of a lastminute decision for us to drive to the Netherlands, and I’m happy we managed to get the family together. It was a lot of fun seeing my two year-old and my brother’s threeContinue reading “Rascals”

Abandon all regulations!
We arrived in a country that seemingly abandoned all COVID-19 regulations. What a stark contrast with Germany, where life without distance and a mask, even months after having been vaccinated is nowhere in sight. I’m happy to oblige. Here in the Netherlands, I have not seen a masked face yet. The lady at a localContinue reading “Abandon all regulations!”
Yesterday’s post
My entry to the Netherlands was exactly as I expected. From the moment we crossed the border, things were – again – back to normal. Windmills lined the roads, and the fields were filled with colorful tulips. The people – all wearing wooden shoes – were overly honest, but remarkably unfrustrated. Of course they wereContinue reading “Yesterday’s post”
Border
Lots of kilometers, and about 24 hours later, and we have made it to another campsite, pretty much on the Dutch border. It was a long day, revealing the very best of German traffic jams and construction sites. But we’re here! We rather spontaneously arranged a surprise visit to my wife’s grandfather, so my kids’Continue reading “Border”
Hitchhikers
It’s very comforting to hear the sound of raindrops falling on the roof just above us. The thick layer of felt lining the roof interior slightly muffles the sound, making it almost sound like white noise. Rafa likes it too. ‘My rain’ he bursts out in excitement, while he’s halfway to the dimension of dreams.Continue reading “Hitchhikers”
Upgrades
On days like this, I’m just so happy that I have a garage. We almost wouldn’t have had one, and it doesn’t even have a door, but fuck it. It has a roof and keeps some stuff dry when it needs to be, and on rare days, I can use it to make things, whenContinue reading “Upgrades”
Window of opportunity
Oh boy! I almost forgot today’s post! I don’t know what it is. (Or maybe I do, but I still struggle with acceptance.) Every single task I try to plan these days is turning into one giant failure. Regular readers may remember that I was planning on making some DIY fixes to our Ford Nugget,Continue reading “Window of opportunity”
I thought self time was supposed to be good for you?
I went on a quick walk this evening. I guess I needed a bit of alone time, after an overwhelming but nevertheless fun day of being at home and doing much less than I had hoped. I decided to use this time to inspect my tansy field site. We’re in a bit of a heatContinue reading “I thought self time was supposed to be good for you?”
Adjust and improve
God it’s late. And I still haven’t written any post! I was on a mini vacation this week, and these vacations get me incredibly lazy! But don’t worry, I have written today. I have just (two minutes ago) submitted an overdue review that I accepted just before my parental leave started (note to self: don’tContinue reading “Adjust and improve”
35.
I turned thirty-five years old today, and as a present to myself, I will write only a few words (still better than no words). I need to eat Bavarian plum pie, drink coffee, and rest in the shade of an apple tree to overcome the shock of reaching this milestone.
