A couple of years back, I obsessively monitored my daily activity patterns, including daily sleep cycles and walking activity. My average days at the time counted ~13.000 steps. I went for a daily lunch walk to have lunch off-site, and on the job itself, I was often running back and forth between the entomology lab, the greenhouse facilities, and the common garden area. In addition, I went for daily groceries almost every day, always on foot.
Last week I noticed that several years later, this app still monitors my activity patterns…
Things have changed, and it is shocking.
Since switching jobs, and countries, my daily life looks quite different. Covid-19 has forced me to work predominantly from a home office within my 70 sqm apartment. The nearest supermarket is probably a 45-minute walk away. Also because of the pandemic, I try to go only once a week and buy everything I need at once. Too much to carry on foot.
The app now regularly counts fewer than 2000 steps per day (6000 steps is the app’s recommended minimum). Last Monday was particularly bad, logging only a measly 51 steps.
How do you combine lockdowns, work and parenting with keeping active?
